Obtaining Approval for Tree Work
Trees in urban environments are protected by Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) developed by Local councils for their local areas. This includes trees on private properties.
TPO’s aim to manage and enhance trees in the local area by requiring consent for actions which are likely to impact on their health, and or on the landscape of that local area.
Each Local Council has its own TPO particular to the needs of that local area. It is important that when thinking about undertaking ANY tree work you first refer to the TPO of your Local Council. For a copy of your Councils TPO click here.
The TPO will clearly explain what you will need to do in regards to your tree, an indeed it may advise you to consult an Arborist. TPOs clearly state exemptions where consent may not be required.
Where consent is required , this will involve a written application form , accompanied by many cases , with a fee to Council. Click here for a copy of your Local Councils Application form. Often we assist clients in applying to Council for approval.
